Summary

Based on Debian, Ubuntu is quickly taking over the Linux desktop space. The LiveCD uses the same software as the installer, so the LiveCD can successfully be used to test hardware compatability before installation. Ubuntu comes in several downloadable versions, including an installer, a LiveCD, and a combination Live/installer DVD (choose between the two from the first menu before the disc boots). Works fine on an iMac 266 Mhz, 256 MB RAM, normally running on OS 10.3.9 .

Languages

The Ubuntu LiveCD supports approximately 50 languages
