SNAPPIX

From LiveCDList

SNAPPIX is the first of its kind Linux Live CD featuring a completely open source Java software development toolkit, SNAP Platform. This live CD provides the ability to learn more about open source Java in a safe environment without risking your production development environment and without installing any software.

Although this is the original release of SNAPPIX it is actually based on version 3.8 of the popular KNOPPIX Linux Live CD and version 0.7 of SNAP Platform, thus the original release carries the same version number as SNAP Platform. SNAPPIX features the Eclipse universal tool platform and the Tomcat servlet and JSP container. These tools are completely integrated into the KDE menu system and are available with one click from the KDE Desktop. The SNAP Platform compliant sample programs are also available from the menus and are fully integrated into the Eclipse integrated development environment. SNAPPIX inherits the ability to store information on the floppy drive and USB flash memory drives. This provides the optimal environment for students to study open source Java and save their coursework on any computer that meets the modest requirements of an Intel-compatible CPU (i486 or later), 128 MB of RAM, a bootable CD-ROM drive, a standard SVGA-compatible graphics card, and a serial or PS/2 standard mouse.

SNAP Platform is a comprehensive open source development toolkit based on the popular Java language, Java API and the best open source Java-based tools. The SNAP Platform packages into an easy to install solution, the latest stable releases of an open source Java compiler, a Java virtual machine, a J2SE API, and various other open source Java-based development tools.
