Summary

SLAX is a Slackware based desktop LiveCD which takes up less than 200 MB. There are currently four versions available, plus modules which can be added to the LiveCDs. Some other notable features include a Windows tool which allows modifying the ISO, adding packages, creating a new ISO, and putting SLAX on a USB keydrive.

Versions

5.0.6 (current as of 2005-07-19)

Kernel 2.6.12.2 (vanilla kernel)
KDE 3.4.1, stripped but still full featured.

Installation

SLAX can be installed to a hard drive by running the GUI installation program "/root/SLAX installer" from the running LiveCD (from KDE)

Remastering

  • MySLAX Creator : Windows Utility (http://myslax.bonsonno.org/)
  • Scripts to remaster make_iso.bat (for windows) and make_iso.sh (for Linux) are in the root directory of CD.
  • SLAX CD is modular, that means you don't need to remaster the whole system, you can just add software you need to existing iso. Very nice feature imho.
