Summary

The PCLinuxOS LiveCD is also the main installation disk for PCLinuxOS. PCLinuxOS is popular for many reasons, some of them being its simple installation, and versatile KDE desktop.

Versions

PCLinuxOS has not released an official stable version; it only has released Preview Releases. The preview releases are considered beta. So they may work flawlessly on one peice of hardware, they may have bugs on other hardware. PCLinuxOS is constantly being updated. It is never necessary to reinstall unless your installation becomes damaged. You should be able to upgrade even from Preview Release 5 or so, when the upgrade system was first implemented.

Customization

You can also easily create a new LiveCD or DVD from your current installation by typing, as root, 'mklivecd new.iso'. Then burning the image with K3B, which is included. It is possible to use synaptic to install anything in the PCLinuxOS repository and then even set up your personal settings onto the LiveCD. The mklivecd script only clears out some stuff like your browser cache and history, your recently used programs and documents list, and temporary files kicking around, to save space on the new liveCD/DVD.
